Great review from Midwest Record

http://midwestrecord.com/MWR687.html

www.jasondanielsmusic.com
JASON DANIELS/Dashboard Visions and Rearview Reflections: If it wasn’t for his linage, his pals and his geographic travels, we’d be saying this with tongue in cheek, but we aren’t. And what we are saying is this is the best Van Morrison record since the ones Van did in the early 70s. With Jackson, Nashville and Napa Valley in his blood, a love of blue eyed soul and the rest of the early Morrison moves in tow, this is a driving set that delivers the classic rock stuff so many are looking for but few find. Killer stuff that delightfully opens your jaded ears.

Press Release

Emerging Artist, Jason Daniels releases
Dashboard Visions and Rearview Reflections
A debut album with a genre bending mix of funky country-blues
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Self-produced album due out on October 15th, 2013.  Album features Peter Keys (Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Kenny Olson (Kid Rock), Jay Kott (Son Seals, Trey Anastasio), Jeff Fowlkes (Uncle Kracker, Kid Rock).
Jackson, MS—Nashville, Tennessee is known as Music City. When you are a country artist about to leave a city known for country music and head into the unknown, should you panic? Not Jason Daniels—heading for Jackson, Mississippi, Daniels admits, “I was feeling a little restless but also enchanted with my unknown future. That’s how several pieces of Dashboard Visions and Rearview Reflections came about. The album is basically a collection of songs about where I’ve been and wondering what lies ahead and wanting these experiences of life.” Did we mention that Jackson is known as the “City with Soul”?
Describing himself as a “new artist cut from old cloth”, Dashboard Visions and Rearview Reflections is Daniels’ debut album. It’s an introduction to an artist with deep country music roots. His uncles were George and Paul Richey, well-known musicians, songwriters and publishers who started out at Sun Records in Memphis. George Richey was also known as the husband of Tammy Wynette who worked with Billy Sherrill in the 70’s and wrote “The Grand Tour” among other songs recorded by George Jones. Paul, who at one point managed George Jones, also wrote “The Barron” for Johnny Cash, which was turned into a movie. Daniels recalls being whisked away on a private jet and tour bus to go see Aunt Tammy sing. “There’s nothing like stepping off a Lear Jet and onto a Silver Eagle to impress a young, musically curious mind. That stuck with me and made me pay close attention to music at an early age.” Daniels picked up the guitar in second grade and wrote his first song by the sixth grade.
Dashboard Visions and Rearview Reflections is a 10-song collection that reflects his range of influences: a bit of traditional country, blues, and jazz with a little New Orleans funk and a bit of the Caribbean thrown in. The lyrics draw on his recent events but also from years of travel and adventure. These adventures found him in Europe, on Grateful Dead singer Bob Weir’s couch in “I’ve Seen the World”, to a stint in jail in “Actions and Consequences” and leading him to his true love in “You’re an Angel”. The epic song “Wide Open Spaces” was written for his sister-in-law after her husband was killed in a hunting accident. His lyrics and music are honest, heartfelt reflections of a life well lived. Daniels says the underlying message within Dashboard Visions and Rearview Reflections is for “people to get off their asses and go experience life!”
Dashboard Visions and Rearview Reflections was recorded in East Nashville at The Bomb Shelter, the studio now famous for birthing the debut album by the Alabama Shakes. The album was recorded to 2” tape and was entirely analog up to the mixing point. Daniels enlisted Peter Keys help in playing keyboards and assembling the band, which is, Jay Kott is on bass, Jeff “Shakey” Fowlkes on drums and Daniels on guitar and vox. Other musicians lending a hand are Kenny Olson on the track, “Early in the Morning”, Barb Paugh and Mary Richardson on backup vocals, Jeff Boggs on percussion and the horns were arranged by saxophonist Doug Thomas with Diego Vasquez on trombone and Frederick Weathersby on trumpet.
Jason Daniels grew up in the Napa Valley town of St. Helena and has explored the Golden State’s music scene from the psychedelic sound that permeates Marin County to the country rock and blues scene of Southern California. He moved to Jackson in 2012 after five years of living in Nashville. It’s his love for country, funk, blues and jazz that lead him to say, “Most of this music started in this part of the South. Maybe that’s why I’m here.” Immersing himself in the music, Daniels says he loves every part of the creative process from the first step of writing the song, to the gigging and recording. When asked what inspired him to become an artist, Daniel says, “It’s more like a calling. My life is whatever it is, but music has to be a constant.”
